Renovation in Tokyo
I hope that more and more people will use natural materials.
That’s why I can’t help but ask a basic question about the current slight boom in natural materials.
In order for natural materials to take root in the true sense of the word, I would like you to think about these two themes.
One is that we call things that cannot be called natural materials、 natural materials.
Ignoring the rules for using natural materials and shortening the life of natural materials.
Many of those who are now using natural materials in their house construction are likely to have family members with atopic dermatitis, asthma, or chemical sensitivity.
For this reason, people are turning to natural materials to avoid chemical-added building materials, but I feel angry whenever I see many natural materials with chemicals added without hesitation.
For example, flooring with insecticide and preservative, flooring with urethane coating that kills respiration, foundation wood injected with antiseptic, noncombustible carpets and cloths, etc.
When it comes to painted walls, it’s so much more than a scam.
Most of the diatomaceous earth and plaster are made with chemical glues. The ease of use and the fact that they can be applied by amateurs not only kills the original advantages of plaster, but also makes people think that they are natural materials.
Even if natural materials without chemical additives are used, there are too many cases where people seem to ignore or not know the rules for using natural materials.
Natural materials breathe. They are alive.
If you use it in a way that stops it from breathing or suffocates it, you are doing the natural materials a disservice.
Paints that create a film, such as urethane paint, will kill the natural material’s ability to breathe.
Natural materials used in poorly ventilated rooms, inside walls where there is no air flow, and under floors and ceilings are on the verge of suffocation.
In reality, there are so many people who use natural materials in such a pitiful way.
Natural materials have a lot of good features for the people who live in them, but it would be a shame if they were used in a way that did not make the most of them.
